Submission Guidelines

Written Material

Please read through the following information before submitting your work to us to ensure it fits Our Iowa's mission and vision. 

• Feature Stories: We publish upbeat, positive, and heartwarming stories. Try to keep it under 1,250 words. Include photos whenever possible.
• Label Your Submission: If you’re submitting to a specific department, put the department name at the top of your page or in your email subject line.
• Be Patient: We receive a lot of submissions, so we may hold your material for a future issue without immediate notification. We’ll let you know if we publish it and send you a complimentary copy.
• Return Requests: If you want your material returned, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
• What's Not a Good Fit: Unfortunately, we do not publish artwork or poetry. We also aren't able to cover church, business, or family anniversary celebrations, unless there is something really unique about it.

Photo Submissions

We love getting photos from our readers! 

• High resolution images are required by our strict printing standards.
• Image size should be at least 1000 x 1000 pixels.
• Include information regarding the location of the photo, the names of any people in it, and what the photo means to you or what the story is behind it.

 

All material submitted to us must include your name, mailing address, and a way to contact you with questions.
