Our History
Our Iowa was established in 2007, with Roy Reiman as publisher and Jerry Wiebel as editor. Roy had sold Reiman Publications and retired, but was looking for looking for a way to try out some new magazine publishing ideas he had.
Jerry was still working for Reiman Publications as editor of Country and Country Extra magazines, but after Roy left, he concluded it wasn’t nearly as much fun working there anymore. So he was looking for a “change of scenery”.
Roy and Jerry got together and over the course of several months, came up with the idea for Our Iowa. Jerry and his wife Paula moved to Ames in the spring of 2007 to set up the company.
The Premiere Issue was mailed out in October 2007, and Our Iowa has since become Iowa’s fastest-growing publication.
Since its inception, the magazine has grown into the largest print publication in the state of Iowa, and is now headed by Jerry's brother, Larry.
Our Mission
Our Iowa is a magazine "just for Iowans - written by Iowans". It celebrates all that's great about living in Iowa. Reading each issue is like sitting down at your kitchen table and chatting with fellow Iowans about everything that's great about living in our state. There are some in-depth features written by recognized writers and jaw-dropping photographs of our beautiful land. But the bulk of each issue is comprised of conversational, light-hearted, "Here's what I think" items shared by people just like you.
